On Sunday 24th May the annual Dragon Boat Challenge returns to Basin 2, St Mary’s Island, Chatham Maritime as 24 teams battle it out on the water. Racing 40 ft brightly coloured Chinese war canoes, teams of 16 paddlers and a drummer trying to keep them in time will race across the Basin against the clock. Each team will have 3 races to set the fastest time and qualify for the final race to decide the winner of the coveted trophy.
Rotarian Bill Parkinson, captain of the Steering Committee which has organised the racing, said “last year we had tremendous fun and raised over £5000 for charity and this year with even more boats entered we think that it will be even more successful. Racing starts at 11am and I would encourage everyone to come on down and watch this free event.”
